Developing the Culture of Leadership and Collaboration in Science

Especially in times of increasingly diverse and international teams, good leadership and successful collaboration are essential for successful scientific work - and thus also for the success of Bielefeld University.

Culture means more than just developing individuals through classic leadership development: The framework conditions are also taken into account and corresponding standards are anchored, for example, in guidelines. Cross-cutting issues such as health, family-friendliness, diversity, equality, inclusion, and sustainability also play an important role in holistic cultural development.

Leadership in academia is particularly complex, as supervisory relationships often exist simultaneously within the framework of academic qualification phases, potentially leading to challenges such as role conflicts. To address these challenges, our target group-specific centres and the Personnel Development Program for Researchers and Teachers (PEP) regularly offer various leadership and personnel development formats aimed at improving collaboration.

Additionally, relevant documents, guidelines, and other supporting materials on the topic of leadership and collaboration in academia, as well as further information, can be found here.
